Cost estimates are for ~50 guests. Guest burden scores and flight data are averages — actual costs vary by departure city and season.
How to choose a destination wedding location
Most couples narrow their destination based on three things: budget, guest accessibility, and the vibe they want. The comparison above surfaces the data for all three — but here's what each metric actually means in practice.
Guest ease score
This is a composite score (out of 10) based on flight hours from the US East Coast, visa requirements, and physical accessibility at the destination. A score of 9–10 means guests can get there on a direct flight with no visa paperwork. A score of 5–6 means long-haul or connecting flights, which will reduce your attendance rate.
Legal vs. symbolic ceremonies
Some destinations (Bali, Maldives, parts of Europe) don't allow foreign couples to legally marry under local law. This means your ceremony there is symbolic — beautiful, meaningful, and exactly what you're picturing — while the legal marriage paperwork happens at home. This is completely normal and doesn't change the experience in any way couples notice.
Cost ranges
The cost estimates shown are for approximately 50 guests. Your actual costs will scale with guest count (catering and accommodation) but some costs are fixed regardless of guests (photography, florals, planner fee). See our budget calculator for a guest-count-specific estimate.
